SUCCESSFUL PARTNERSHIP BRINGS AFFORDABLE HOUSING TO WHITBY

Work has completed on much-needed affordable housing in Whitby, thanks to a partnership between leading North East housebuilder Yuill Homes and Broadacres Housing Association.

Part-funded by the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), 11 affordable homes for rent and three homes for shared ownership will be managed by Broadacres Housing Association at Yuill Homes’ current Old Creamery development site, off White Leys Road.

The partnership will also provide 52 two, three and four bedroom homes for sale through Yuill Homes on the remainder of the site.

Alexandra Ross, partnership manager at Yuill Homes, said, “We’re delighted to have worked in partnership with Broadacres Housing Association on this fantastic new housing development in Whitby. ‘Yuill Homes is committed to supporting the sustainability of local communities. By delivering a superb range of a high quality mixed tenure housing at The Old Creamery development we hope more local people will have a better opportunity to get on the property ladder with an affordable home.”

All of the affordable homes built on-site have been designed to generate 10% of their energy use from renewable sources. Each home has been installed with solar panelling in which photovoltaic (PV) cells capture the sun’s energy to convert sunlight into electricity – for household appliances and lighting.

Andrew Garrens of Broadacres Housing Association said, “We’re very pleased to provide much needed high quality housing for rent and purchase working alongside Yuill Homes. With solar panels on the roof and other energy efficiency measures in place, the properties are helping to keep fuel bills down for residents at the same time as reducing carbon emissions.”
