BRETT MARTIN BRINGS DAYLIGHT AND A TOUCH OF CLASS TO CASTLE ORANGERY

For a new orangery at the majestic Ballyseede Castle Hotel in Southern Ireland, Brett Martin Daylight Systems has supplied a comprehensive Ritchlight skylights package helping to create a light, bright environment for guests and staff whilst at the same time blending beautifully with the character of this stately, listed building.

In the heart of the Ring of Kerry near Tralee, Ballyseede Castle dates back to the 16th century but was transformed into one of Ireland’s most luxurious hotels in the 1960s.  As part of a new extension, which includes an orangery, entrance lobby, toilets and ancillary service areas, Brett Martin Daylight Systems was called upon to provide an aesthetically pleasing daylight solution for the orangery, comprising a Ritchlight Ultra skylight system, glazed in toughened glass.

Working with specialist contractor D & R Daylight Services Ltd, the skylights package featured four Brett Martin Ritchlight Ultra skylights in a hip-ended format and in sizes ranging from the smallest at 3.5m x 1.5m, to the largest at 5.6m x 4.2m. Manufactured with an alumunium frame and powdercoated in a light ivory colour to meet the client’s requirements, the fully thermally broken skylight system was fabricated and precision-engineered at Brett Martin’s factory in Coventry, before being assembled and installed on site by the specialist contractor.

Commenting on the installation of the skylight system, Larry Scott of D & R Daylight Services Ltd said: “The Ritchlight system is a fantastic system and a lot like a giant Meccano unit when it comes to assembly – it’s quick, reliable and easy, ensuring the project remained on track for completion.”

Ritchlight Ultra is a popular and highly adaptable glazing system, providing specifiers with a versatile way to create architecturally stunning pitched skylights in a variety of sizes, frame colours and glazing options. The unique thermal break splits the internal and external components to prevent thermal bridging, and results in a skylight system that’s exceptional at keeping heat in as well as bringing in natural light. This improved insulation means minimal condensation too.

Each precision-engineered Ritchlight Ultra system is custom-built to client’s specific requirements. With a span up to 5 metres (or more with a subframe) and any run length, the possibilities are limitless. Ritchlight Ultra skylights are widely specified for schools, public buildings, retail developments and homes both new-build and refurbishment – ideal for flat roofs and ridge glazing, and perfect for creating covered courtyards. Once installed, Ritchlight Ultra skylights combine spectacular aesthetics with outstanding weather resistance, durability, reliability and the reassurance of a 20-year warranty.

Brett Martin not only designs a wide range of systems to deliver optimum performance, durability, safety and regulation standards – it also provides superior technical support, detailed installation instructions and maintenance guidelines to ensure systems perform as promised, and work alongside all other roofing elements.

With the specification and installation of the Ritchlight Ultra skylight system optimising natural daylight in this stunning new addition to Ballyseede Castle Hotel, Brett Martin has played its part in the creation of an aesthetically pleasing, daylight-filled orangery which will no doubt provide another century of history.
